1. What do I need to get started?

You will need an Internet connection, an e-mail account, and a user id and password. Any computer that is capable of Internet connection is adequate for FocalTRACK.

User ID's and passwords are supplied by your Administrator. Please note that is your personalized user ID and actions within the system under this user id are assumed to be taken by you. If you require an additional user ID's please contact your administrator.

2. What type of Internet connection should I be using?

FocalTRACK can function on minimum on a 56 Kbps modem. Cable Internet connections and high-speed telephone connections are more common today and make downloads times much quicker.

3. What browser should I be using?

For best viewing results, you will need Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher.

To determine your current browser version:
  1. Open your browser (Internet Explorer).
  2. From the menu bar, select Help
  3. Select About. A screen will appear that displays your browser name and version.
  4. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/ if you need to update your browser.

4. What screen resolution should I be using?

Recommended minimum screen resolution is 800 x 600 for a 15" monitor and 1024 x 768 for a 17" or greater monitor. This will make the text slightly smaller but you will be able to see much more on screen. To change your screen resolution.
  1. Go to the Control Panel (found under Start Menu -> Settings)
  2. Select the Display icon.
  3. Select the Settings Tab and adjust the screen resolution bar.

5. Documents not open properly in FocalTRACK. What could be wrong?

You may notice a pop-up blocker that prevents document from being displayed or prevents downloads to your computer. The simplest way to alleviate any problems this is to add the FocalTRACK website to your browser's trusted sites list.

Add FocalTRACK to you Trusted Sites (see visual steps)
  1. Go to Internet Explorer Tools menu, and then select Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security Tab, then select the Trusted Sites (Green icon)
  3. Select the Sites... button and add "www.focaltrack.com" and click Add.
  4. Unselect "Require Server Verification (https)..." and click OK. (optional step - prevents notice when entering secure area)
  5. Move the sliding bar to "Low" (only applies to Internet Explorer 7).

6. Will the pop-up blockers in Yahoo or Google toolbars impact my usage of FocalTRACK?

We recommend that browser toolbars (e.g. Yahoo or Google toolbars) be configured to disable the pop-up blocker for the FocalTRACK site. Some application controls such as the FocalTRACK date selector that will not work properly if a pop-up blocker is activated.

Note on Personal Software Firewalls

Personal software firewalls such as Norton and MacAfee can also block pop-ups and produce the same problem as Additional Browser Toolbars by blocking specific FocalTRACK controls (such as date selector). These personal firewalls can also be configured to allow pop-ups for the FocalTRACK website (www.focalTRACK.com) and do not compromise your security.

7. How can I make more viewing room on the screen?

The following three options will enable more viewing room on the screen:
  1. Minimize the left navigation window by selecting the small white arrow just above the search tab. Once minimized, you can change it back but selecting the white arrow again.
  2. Open documents in a new window using the icon across from a document name.
  3. Use the F11 key to maximize viewing room within your browser.

8. Does FocalTRACK use cookies?

FocalTRACK uses cookies to assist in its security procedures. If your browser's (Internet Explorer) cookies are turned off then you will not be able to access FocalTRACK. To ensure cookies are enabled:
  1. Open Internet Explorer then click on Tools menu
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. From here select Internet and then click on the Default button below. If the default button is already greyed out then it means that the default is the active setting and you are ok.
